Description of Project :

    The Project, Construction of Railway Bridges on Rail Track Extension, Phase 1, is funded by the Austrian Government under Sri Lanka Austrian Technical Corporation. The Project consists of construction of new bridges at Kelaniya (Double track), Kalutara North and South (Single track), Ja-ela (Single track), and and Seeduwa (Single track) and replacement of superstructures (Single track) at Pinwatta, Rambukkana and Polwatumodera. Superstructure of bridges consists of steel truss construction and substructures consist of reinforced concrete abutments and piers supported on micro piles (steel pipes grouted with cement) extended in to the bedrock. Total cost of the project is Rs. 2250 Mn and the total length of the bridges is 750 m. Contractor of the Project was M/s Waagner Biro Stahlbau AG of Austria.
Description of Services Provided:

    Consultancy services include checking and approval of design calculations and drawings prepared by the Turn-key Contractor, project management, quality controlling, construction supervision, payment certifications, coordination between authorities, assisting the Client on the safety, environmental and social aspects connected with the project. CECB staff also responsible of advising the Contractor to finding appropriate solutions on difficult ground conditions and scour protection works connected with foundation works.
